Pack Email Header January

Dear Friend,

Happy New Year! It's only a few hours into 2023, and we're full of optimism for the year ahead. We placed dogs with multiple clients in the last month, and these new Assistance Dogs are already making an incredible impact on the people they were placed with. What a great way to start off the new year!

We can't thank you enough for your continued support, and hope you enjoy reading the latest stories and updates from our team. The ongoing training, support, and care of our dogs and clients are all made possible by members of the Pack!

This marks the 6th edition of our monthly Pack Newsletter, and we'd love your feedback. Please consider sharing your thoughts in our 5-question survey.

Sincerely,

Bryan Williams
CEO, Dogs for Better Lives

EMERALD UPDATE

Emerald Pack Dec 2022 (2)

It's time for another pup-date from puppy-in-training, Emerald!

Emerald continues to love every person and dog that she meets. She is a very happy puppy and recently had the time of her life playing in the snow!

"Emerald has been a little bit stubborn lately and has not been wanting to wear her vest so we have been working on ways to make the vest more positive. We gave her a break from the vest and had the vest on the ground. If she touched the vest we would give her a green bean - she loves green beans! We have also been working on taking her out in public as often as possible, exposing her to different distractions and dogs. We think this will help with her becoming less distracted when we go out," said Puppy Raisers Megan and Claire.

Check out the photo of her below when she joined DBL, and how much she's grown! We're so proud of Team Emerald! Stay tuned next month for an update on Emerald's journey!

How Facility Dog Ruth Changed a Classroom

Facility Dog Ruth was placed with Allison nearly a year ago. We asked Allison to reflect on their first year together as a Facility Dog Team. "Ruth has done, and continues to do, so many wonderful things to help my students in so many wonderful ways." Read their story.

Catching up with Nemo

We recently had our 5-year follow up with Brendon and Home Hearing Dog, Nemo in Portales, NM.
Nemo works door knock, smoke alarm, alarm clock, phone, and name call. Nemo still has great enthusiasm for working sounds and is an ace at obedience. Great job, little Nemo!

Northeast Campus Dogs out in the Community

We have 4 dogs in training at our Northeast Campus! Our trainers take the dogs out into public for regular outings to work on their training in a busy and unpredictable environment, and to answer questions about curious folks passing by. We're so proud of these Assistance Dogs in training. They are making great progress and we can't wait to see the lives they change!

Pizza and Pups-in-Training

In December, West Campus DBL Trainers and Kennel Techs had a holiday pizza lunch with Al Lane, former Board Member and Chair, at Baci’s. It was a great outing for all, and good practice for a few of our dogs in training! Al was kind enough to treat us to ice cream and cinnamon treats!
