Behind-the-scenes update on all the happenings at DBL, plus an update from future Service Dog Rocky
Jan25 Pack Email Header

Dear Friend,

As we welcome the new year, we reflect on the joy of connection and new beginnings that were made possible by our donors over the holiday season. One story that stands out is Autism Assistance Dog Addie's recent placement with Noah.

Addie’s preparation was a team effort. Our trainers at our Northeast Campus worked tirelessly to ensure she was ready for life as a Service Dog. Noah’s family embraced Addie's arrival wholeheartedly, ready to learn and fully prepared. But it was Noah’s immediate connection with Addie that was truly touching. Watching them bond so effortlessly reminded us why we do what we do.

Already, Addie has made a profound impact on Noah’s daily life. Once prone to running off in stores, Noah now stays close to his family, taking pride in Addie's care and his role as her partner. Together, they are practicing Addie's skills like “shake,” “lap,” “settle,” and “touch,” setting the foundation for years of growth and companionship.

Here’s to a new year filled with meaningful connections and life-changing moments. Together, let’s make 2025 our best year yet.

Sincerely,

ROCKY'S UPDATE

ROCKY Jan25

It's time for a pup-date from Rocky!

January is a big month for Rocky as he prepares to begin his professional training at DBL's west campus on January 6th! While his Puppy Raiser Jenna and her family will miss him dearly, they’re proud of all the hard work he’s done to get to this point. Jenna has done such an amazing job setting a strong foundation for his training and we're certain he's going to do well!

Rocky had plenty of holiday adventures in December. "He met Santa and, like any excited kid, was so overwhelmed with joy that instead of sitting politely, he flopped over for tummy rubs. Santa, of course, couldn’t resist," said Jenna.

Fun story of the month

Another highlight from December was picking out a Christmas tree. "Rocky had a blast racing through the snow and even waded into a half-frozen creek—proof that he’s braver than he lets on when it comes to getting his paws wet!" said Jenna.

Jenna says they’re hoping to welcome another future Service Dog around March. Until then, we’ll keep cheering Rocky on as he moves closer to his career as a DBL Service Dog.

Check back next month for another update from Rocky!

Regional Advisory Board – Texas to Launch

This month, our Regional Advisory Board – Texas will officially launch, engaging its volunteer members in advocacy, outreach, and fundraising opportunities across the Lone Star State. Headed up by Chair Lauren Hausheer, these critical volunteers will play a pivotal role in helping to raise general awareness for Dogs for Better Lives, as well as promote DBL's From Shelter to Service Dog Program and partnership with Operation Kindness in Carrollton. Former Shelter Dog Hazel Works on Public Training

Hazel, one of the dogs in the From Shelter to Service Dog Program, has been honing her skills in public. Last month, she went to the mall to work and then walked around downtown Grapevine, Texas. Public training is essential for future Service Dogs like Hazel, because it helps them develop the skills, confidence, and adaptability needed to navigate the wide range of environments and situations they will encounter while working.
