Behind-the-scenes update on all the happenings at DBL, plus an update from future Service Dog, Halligan
November25 pack

Dear Friend,

As a member of The Pack, your support helps create life-changing partnerships that bring safety, independence, and companionship to people every day.

We recently met up with Karen and her Certified Hearing Dog, Camber (or “Cam,” as she lovingly calls him), for their three-year follow-up—and it’s clear this team is still thriving. Living on her own, Karen relies on Camber’s sharp ears and dedication to keep her connected to the world around her. He alerts her when someone knocks at the door, when the oven timer dings, and even wakes her up when he hears her phone alarm. During our visit, we were so impressed watching Camber perform his soundwork and confidently accompany Karen around town—they’re a perfect match.

Thanks to your continued support, teams like Karen and Camber can continue doing what they do best—working together every day to make life a little safer, easier, and more connected.

Thank you for being part of our mission,

Bryan Williams

MEET HALLIGAN

Halligan 1125

We’re excited to introduce you to Halligan, a 5-month-old yellow Labrador retriever who is on his journey to become a future Service Dog! As a Pack Member, you'll receive monthly updates as he grows into his role.

Meet Jill, His Puppy Raiser

Halligan is being raised by Jill, one of our newest volunteer puppy raisers. Though new to Dogs for Better Lives, Jill brings over 25 years of experience raising puppies for another organization. She and Halligan live the RV life about two hours north of our Oregon campus.

About Halligan

This handsome pup (born May 19, 2025) already weighs about 40 lbs. He’s eager to please, quick to learn, and loves greeting new friends on his walks. When he’s not training, Halligan enjoys watching wild turkeys and deer from his fenced yard—thankfully, just watching!

“Halligan is smart as a whip and eager to please, especially when there’s a treat involved,” says Jill.

What’s Next

Halligan has started attending meetings with Jill and is beginning to explore quiet stores as he learns to navigate new environments confidently.

Shelter Dog Lenny Embraces Hearing Dog Training

Lenny, a dog in our From Shelter to Service Dog Program, took an exciting step in his training this week as he was introduced to hearing work! He quickly caught on to sitting at the sound and stayed focused—especially once he realized that the timer sound meant treats were coming his way. After a great session, he celebrated with his signature happy “pitter patter,” showing just how much fun he’s having as he learns and grows each day.
